Tower Business Park Marketing Plan
Completed July 2009
Local EDA/Organization: Tower Economic Development Authority
EDA Center Faculty/Staff: Dr.Christo Robberts & Dr. Eric Burgess
Project Description:

Incorporated in 1889, the City of Tower is the oldest city north of Duluth and the eastern gateway to beautiful Lake Vermilion. Recently, a number of actions by both the state and the community have spurred development in the region. Specifically, the legislature has authorized the development of Minnesota's newest state park which has been estimated to generate many new tourists visits to the region. Additionally, the community is in the middle of redeveloping the Historic Harbor Project, which when completed will tap the economic potential of Lake Vermilion and dramatically change the face of the community's central business district. And lastly, the community has recently developed the Tower Business Park, with approximately 30 business/industrial lots.

In spite of these economic developments, the region has been hit hard by the plant closures and cutbacks in both the mining and timber industries. The Tower Economic Development Authority has requested that the EDA Center assist in the creation of a recruitment, retention and marketing plan for this new business park.

EDA Center Involvement: The EDA Center is working with the Tower Economic Development Authority to:
  • Examine and evaluate their vision for this new business park.
  • Create a working blueprint based upon the vision of the TEDA to market, recruit and retain businesses in this new business park.
